Zummer-GSM - User manual.

The wireless burglar alarm and remote listening system.


Zummer GSM is a full-fledged burglar alarm (intruder alarm) supplemented with remote audiocontrol functions, as well as with functions of telephone line control which enables listening in on telephone conversations through a remote GSM - phone.

Zummer GSM is primarily designed for the following tasks:

  • To protect cottages, summer residences, garages and other far-off objects, where it is impossible to install a standard security system because of absence of telephone lines to transmit alarm messages;
  • To inform the owners if their apartment is flooded by water;
  • To carry out the audio monitoring of an office or an apartment. The owner can supervise at any time his employees or children left without due care with the help of a remote GSM-telephone.
  • To control the telephone line. The owner is notified of the calls being received and dialled, at the given moment, so that he can listen to the calls. This function also allows controlling pirate connections to your telephone line, unauthorized use of office telephones and so on.

Parents, who use the device at home, have an opportunity to supervise their children's calls to paid telephone services and be informed in due time that their children take interest in drugs. The system Zummer-GSM will also allow you to protect your home telephone line from non-authorized use when you are away.

Attention! It is forbidden by some countries' legislation to use Zummer - GSM for the control of telephone lines that do not belong to you or to your firm. Neither manufacturer nor seller of the system bears responsibility for such actions of the user.

Principle of operation.

The system works on the following principle: the user is notified via GSM-channel if any of the alarm system's closed loops is broken or the flood sensor goes off or the telephone line under control is activated. One has an opportunity to tap the room and the telephone line under control with the help of an external microphone connected to the device. In the updated version "ZUMMER-GSM-VIDEO" it is also possible to transmit a static image to a personal computer or cellular telephone via GSM-channel when the sensors go off or when an inquiry is made.

The notification is carried out by transmitting an SMS-message to the user or other controller as well as by repeating direct automatic dialing with typical disturbing sound signals.

In case the security sensors go off, the external light and sound alarm switches on.

1. The installation of the device.

1.1 The installation of a SIM card in the device.

When installing a SIM card in the device, make sure that:

  • The SIM card contains the correct number of the SMS centre. (Different operators have different SMS-centres).
  • There are no inbox and outbox SMS messages in the SIM card memory
  • Preset the PIN-code of the SIM card to 1111. The function "number identification" should be accessible in the SIM card, otherwise the mode of access without a password will not work.

1.2 Connect the network adapter to the "power supply" socket.

1.3 Fix the external aerial and the necessary sensors.

1.4 Connecting to a telephone line:

The device is intended for joint work with telephone lines of rated voltage 60 volt (Russian standard) and 26 volt (European standard, small automatic telephone stations). The accurate work of the device is not guaranteed on other types of telephone lines.

To work with non-standard telephone lines (automatic telephone station "Quantum", a coupled telephone etc.) it is necessary to use a special adapter. Please consult the nearest dealer of Zummer GSM to choose the right adapter. The device perceives both impulse and tone dialing. If you use the tone mode of dialing on your line, you should shift switch #2 on the face panel downwards, if you use the pulse mode - switch it upwards. If your line is equipped with automatic number identificator (ANI or Caller ID), which picks up the receiver automatically, you should switch microswitch #3 downwards. If ANI identifies the number only when the receiver is picked up or is not used, this mode should not be used (switch #3 should be in the top position).

1.5. Fixing the device. If necessary, the device can be fixed on a wall with the enclosed assembly rod, which is screwed to the body by two screws (applied).

1.6. Connecting the sensors. The motion, disconnection and flood sensors should be connected according to the following circuit:

The disconnection and motion sensors should be normally closed. If any of them is disconnected the alarm system goes off (in security mode). Therefore, if one of the sensors is not used, contacts for its connection on the device should be closed. For this purpose it is necessary to shift switch #4 (for the motion sensor) or #5 (for the disconnection sensor) in the bottom position. The alternative way is to short-circuit the appropriate contacts on the device.

1.7. Connecting a siren. It is necessary to connect the black wire to the common wire (symbol "ground") and the red one to the outlet "Siren" of the device.

2. External devices.

  • Motion sensor
  • The device of remote alarm system activating/deactivating such as Touch-Memory or Proximity (if necessary).
  • Siren

3. Activating the device.

3.1 Activate the device by pressing the green button "ON".

3.2 When the device is being activated, the following light emitting diodes work:

a. the green light emitting diode flashes, if energy is supplied from the built-in battery; it constantly burns, if energy is supplied from an external power supply.

b. the yellow light emitting diode blinks until the device is registered in the GSM network of the operator. After registration it burns constantly.

c. the red light emitting diode does not burn, if the device does not operate in guard mode, it flashes slowly in the delayed activation of guard mode, it quickly flashes in "alarm" mode .

3.3. Self-testing mode of the device. Self-testing mode is on, if you keep the red button pressed for more than two seconds at any moment of work of the device. Thus light emitting diodes give the following information:

  • The red light emitting diode flashes, when the telephone line is properly connected to the device. It does not burn if the device is not connected to the telephone network.
  • - The yellow light emitting diode burns, if at least one of the disconnection sensors is closed.
  • The green light emitting diode burns, if the flood sensor is properly connected. The sensor should be dry.

To exit the self-testing mode let the red button off.

4. The mode of alarm system activation/deactivation.

4.1. To enter alarm system mode, press the red button. Thus in this mode there will be 30 seconds pause before alarm system is activated. At this time the red light emitting diode flashes. After 30 seconds the device is set up in protection mode and the red light emitting diode steadily burns. When the alarm goes off, the red light emitting diode begins to flash frequently, and the device sends the alarm message. The sound notification system, which works for 3 minutes, is switched on. After 3 minutes passed, the device automatically switches back to the guard mode, provided that the sensors return to the closed condition. If the security sensors go off again, only sound notification system will be switched on and alarm messages will not be sent to the user.

4.2. Activating/deactivating of guard mode can be carried out by giving commands from the user managing cellular telephone in the voice access mode or managing SMS messages (See below).

5. Remote access mode.

5.1 dial the number given to the SIM card, which is installed in the device.

5.2 If the connection is successful, you will hear 4 short sound signals that demand the password. Enter your password after the signals, using the telephone keyboard. The password set by the manufacturer is "1111". The password can be changed (see chapter 7).

5.3 You need not enter the password when dialing the device, if the password set in the device coincides with the four last digits of the number of the subscriber who is calling from a cellular telephone.

5.4 If authorization has been successful, you will hear one short sound signal. In this mode you can operate the device in DTMF mode (see below). If you enter the wrong password, you will hear two short sound signals. You should enter the password again.

6. Controlling the device with the help of DTMF commands.

6.1 After the process of authorization is finished, you are in direct access mode. Now the device expects you to enter a DTMF command (that means you should choose a command by pressing one of digital buttons 0-9). To select the mode you should enter the digit that corresponds to one of the modes given below and wait for a short sound signal. After that you should make the necessary set up with the help of the telephone buttons "*" and "#". When you switch on this or that option, you will hear one confirming short beep, When you switch off an option, you will hear two confirming short beeps.

In direct access mode (after dialing the device and entering the password):

"*" - this button switches on the mode of listening through the external microphone connected to the device;

"#" - the mode of compulsory listening to a telephone line is on.

Other modes are set up by pressing one of the telephone digital buttons, and then buttons "*" or "#".

Button "1" - Mode of alarm system activation. When you are in direct access mode, press button "1" and after having heard one short signal, press *or #:

"*" - to activate alarm system.

"#" - to deactivate alarm system.

Wait for a confirming signal (one or two short signals accordingly).

Button "2" - the mode of sending SMS messages about telephone conversations. When you are in direct access mode, press button "2". Then act as it has been explained in the previous paragraph. This mode allows switching on or switching off the function of transmitting an SMS message when the telephone line activated (calls received and dialled). In case the call is dialled, the SMS contains the phone number of the recipient of the call

"*" - to send SMS messages

"#" - not to send SMS messages

Button "3" - the mode of the recognition of conversations. It is set up like the abovementioned mode. If this mode is activated, the device transmits an SMS message which notifies you of a dialled call only after the recipient's answer. This allows to filter messages about dialled calls when the conversation did not take place. If this mode is switched off, the user will receive SMS-messages immediately after the receiver is picked up.

"*" - To switch on the mode of the recognition of conversations.

"#" - To switch off the mode of the recognition of conversations.

Button "4" - the mode of sending an alarm message when the motion sensor or the disconnection sensor go off. The mode is set similarly.

"*" - switch on. (To send alarm message).

"#" - switch off. (not to send alarm message).

Button "5" - the mode of delayed alarm message sending when the sensors go off.

If this mode is activated and the sensors go off, the device makes 30 seconds pause before it sends an alarm message, that enables the user to turn off "Guard" mode or switch off the device without causing alarm.

"*" - To switch on delayed mode

"#" - To switch off delayed mode

Button "6" - the flood sensor control mode. Switches on or switches off the function that sends an alarm message if the flood sensor goes off.

"*" - To switch on. (To send an alarm message.)

"#" - To switch off. (not to send an alarm message.)

Button "7" - To change client's mobile number. (Number, where an alarm message is sent to.) In direct access mode press "7". Then, after a short confirming signal enter the telephone number and "*" in the end input.

The format of the telephone number: country code +city code+phone number+" * "

For example: 79165553333* or 375296223333*

If you did everything right, you will hear a short sound signal after the input is completed, and the device will switch to direct access mode. Thus new setup will be recorded in the memory of the device. If you did anything wrong, you will hear two sound signals and the device will return to direct access mode without changing setup.

Button "8" - To change the password of access to the device. In direct access mode press ""8" and after a confirming short signal enter a new password of four digits two times in a row and press "*" when you finish the input.

For example: 11111111*

If you did everything right, you will hear a short sound signal after the input is terminated, and the device will switch to direct access mode. Thus new setup will be recorded in the memory of the device. If you did anything wrong, you will hear two sound signals and the device will return to direct access mode without changing setup

Button "9" - switches on sound notificator mode. In this mode when security device goes off, sound notification system (siren) switches on. Press "9" in direct access mode and after a short signal press "*" or "#"

"*" - To switch on.

"#" - To switch off.

Wait for a confirming signal (one or two short signals accordingly)

The button "0" - Notification via direct dialing up to the user's cellular telephone. If this mode is activated, after sending an alarm SMS message, the device will make an attempt to phone up the user's cellular telephone and to notify the user of the alarm sensors going off with the help of characteristic sound signals. The mode may be necessary in such GSM networks where the quality of SMS service is not good.

"*" - To switch the mode on.

"#" - To switch the mode off.

"0" and "0" and "*" will put you through to the automatic subscriber service. (to find out how many funds are on the SIM card inserted in the device).

Attention! You should activate the "conference call" service on the SIM card inserted in the device to be able to work with this function.

In this mode the device gets connected to the subscriber service for a built-in SIM card and switches the conversation on the client cellular telephone.

Attention! After you enter this mode, the device will not return to direct access mode. After work with the subscriber automatic service the device will disconnect you from the conference and will finish call.

7. Control of the device with the help of SMS messages.

To run the device with the help of SMS messages it is necessary to send to it the message that contains the password and the command. Controlling commands are described in chapter 6 (controlling with the help of DTMF).

The format of an SMS message:

password+mode+command+mode+. +command

For example: 11111*2*9#4*5#6*3*0#

The sequence and amount of set modes have no importance. Modes 7 and 8 should be set by separate SMS messages For example:

8. Configuration micro switches.

Micro switches 1-6 carry out the following functions:

1. Switching the device to work in a stand-alone mode or with a CALL-centre (top position denotes work in a stand-alone mode).

2. Adjusting to the type of the telephone line under control. The top position adjusts to pulse dialing, bottom -to tone dialling.

3. Activating the mode of joint work with ANI. (Bottom position).

4. The bottom position closes the motion sensor.

5. The bottom position closes the disconnection sensor.

6. Switching on - switching-off the microphone (top position switches the microphone on).

8.1. Work from built-in accumulators (if there is no voltage 220 V in the mains). When accumulators are about 80 % discharged (that usually corresponds to approximately 6 hours of work in stand-by mode), the device notifies the owner of this fact with the help of an SMS "the battery is discharged". When accumulators are discharged almost completely, the device switches to "sleeping" mode that does not allow the batteries to discharge to zero voltage. The device will resume work only after connection to external power supply. Do not store the device with unloaded accumulators for a long time, especially if the button "" (ON) is held down, since it can result in the damage of accumulators.

9.11. Controllable parameters of constant self-testing are:

  • presence of external power supply and voltage in it;
  • voltage in the built-in accumulators;
  • the state of the built-in cellular phone and its presence within the coverage of a GSM network. When necessary, the telephone is automatically restarted.

9.12 Types of notifying and alarm signals that are transmitted via GSM channel:

  • SMS message;
  • direct audio call.

9.13. Remote control of the device:

  • via audio channel with the help of DTMF signals (by pressing buttons on the managing telephone);
  • with the help of SMS messages.

9.14 Configuration of the device:

  • with the help of personal computer through the external port;
  • with the help of SMS messages;
  • by DTMF signals in direct dialing mode;
  • with micro switches that are on the device.

9.15 Ways of activating and deactivating guard mode of the device:

  • with a button on the device in delayed mode;
  • with digital keys through an external block such as Touch Memory or Proximity;
  • by direct dialing and pressing the button on the managing telephone (cellular or PSTN);
  • - by an SMS message.

9.16 External executive devices of the security system are:

9.18 Ways of remote checking the balance of the SIM-card, which is fitted in the cellular telephone device:

- in voice switching mode with the built-in cellular phone with a DTMF-signal (by pressing the appropriate button in tone mode). The device will automatically get connected to the service of automatic customer service of a cellular operator in a conference call mode);

- without the device by dialing a non automatic service of the cellular operator.
